As the automotive industry shifts towards alternative technologies like CNG/LNG, and emerging Hydrogen Fuel Cell EV, the demand on thermal management systems also increases significantly. While CNG/LNG powered powertrains have higher heat dissipation requirements than diesel ICE, Hydrogen FCEVs demand 4 to 5 times higher heat dissipation.

Alkraft’s product portfolio for Alternative fuel vehicles include cooling system modules for CNG/LNG powered vehicles currently, and for Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for which products are in the development pipeline. Each of these technologies introduces distinct thermal management challenges, paramount among them being the need for enhanced heat dissipation capabilities. CNG and LNG vehicles, while offering cleaner combustion than traditional ICE vehicles, require sophisticated thermal management solutions to ensure optimal performance and fuel efficiency. The challenge intensifies with Hydrogen FCEVs, which demand heat dissipation capacities 4x to 5x greater than their ICE counterparts due to the inherent process of converting hydrogen into electricity.

For Hydrogen FCEVs, two additional critical requirements emerge: the need for high internal cleanliness of the cooling system and very low electrical conductivity in the coolant circuit. The former ensures that the cooling system remains free from clogs and maintains efficiency, while the latter is crucial for preventing electrical faults and enhancing the vehicle’s safety.

Alkraft is at the forefront of addressing these diverse and complex thermal management needs by developing innovative tube and fin geometries and special process technologies specifically designed for the demands of Alternative Fuel vehicles.
